What I Do When I Finish Off… A Book

Monday, 20 June 2011 / Published in Blog

I don’t know what happens to me when I finish a book – I seem to go through weeks of doing nothing, when actually I am catching up on all the things I should’ve been doing while I was writing!  Other writers will understand the drill.  Get up.  Get coffee.  Get writing.  Because if you don’t, you’ll never get around to it.  However much fun I have with my characters, writing takes a ton of discipline, and I know that everything else has to become secondary.  I have written a book a year for as long as I can remember.  I write in longhand very lengthy books, and believe me, that’s a lot of dedicated work.

Every time I finish a book I vow to start the new one the next day.  But that never happens!  Months go by – months of interviews, TV shows, public appearances, photos, getting organized, promoting in different countries.  Wow!  And then of course there’s catching up on all my favorite shows on TiVo – it’s my addiction, and I don’t care!  I love TV.  The most enjoyable and relaxing pastime is watching shows such as Dexter, Breaking Bad, Entourage, etc.  Usually better than the movies any day – unless you’re talking about Bridesmaids, the funniest movie of the year with great hilarious performances all around.

Then of course there is reality TV.  Who can resist the dysfunctional housewives of various cities?  The Orange County crew – all fake tits and blond extensions.  The New Yorkers – feisty broads always screaming at each other.  New Jersey – Bliss.  And the Botoxed to within an inch of their lives Beverly Hills babes – although most of them do not reside in Beverly Hills!  Hollywood Wives they’re not.  The Kardashian’s amuse.  Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed entertain.  Dancing with the Stars is fun – when indeed they do employ stars.  And Simon Cowell – a true reality icon.  So now you know my guilty pleasures.

I have indeed started to write my new book “The Power Trip,” and I will tell you more about it at a later date.  Meanwhile, I am excited about “Goddess of Vengeance” being published in the US on September 13th.  Or as I call it – LUCKY DAY!  So get your pre-orders in now! I look forward to getting out there and meeting some of you in my travels.

Stay LUCKY and safe!

Jackie

  1. I am six months after printing and still sit numb (watching silent movies and Black and White dramas on TCM) with a growing weight of guilt about my next book. When will I start? Will it be the right story for me? Can I do it justice? Will it have any value?

You have given the answer, of course: Get Writing.

    Thanks for the poke!
